The Jaska Nolan residence is a 6350 square foot, 3 story gut-remodel located above Cottonwood Creek Park in Encinitas, CA.
By maintaining the original structural components of the building, we reduced the energy- and resource-intensive manufacturing of new materials. All of the materials that could be reused (doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, scrap wood etc) were either donated or recycled. The tax write-off for donating reusable material helps lower reconstruction costs and keeps items out of the landfill.
The project achieved GreenPoint RATED Gold Certification through Build It Green, which is a program that signifies an environmental consciousness throughout every aspect of the project. Some sustainable features of the project include an 8.12 kW roof-mounted solar PV system, water efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures, an 81% waste diversion, and low/zero VOC paints and sealants. With a hidden spiral staircase and second-story deck connecting the main house and roof of the garage, this property has tons of cool architectural features as well.
